Holy smokes was this not the longest room renovation ever?!! It sure feels that way! After we finally had a professional drywaller come in and finish up the exterior walls of baby girl’s room, I was able to *mostly* finish the entryway! Good enough to finally share some pics anyways! [Read more…]
Our entryway was really calling for some character. We added the board and batten and light fixture, next on the list was a bench big enough for this long-ish space. I really loved all the church pews that were popping up in my Pinterest feed, but after watching craigslist I decided that wasn’t going to happen for a couple of reasons. Our city wasn’t started until the 1950’s- meaning any church pews I found locally were seventies style and ugly, completely lacking any sort of detail or charm. So, if I wanted to find something cute, I would have to search out of town or pay a million dollars. Probably literally.
I finally got some good weeding and pruning done in the garden this weekend. And my sweet hubby after working 50+ hours this week, came home and helped me put up a fence to keep the dog-monster out and made me a compost bin!
There’s something about moving into a new home that gets your brain going. Project overload going on around here. If it appears like I’m jumping around from one thing to another, it’s not just on the internet. That’s going on in real life too=). [Read more…]
Continuing on the entryway train. New lighting. Yipee!
I started a pinterest board dedicated simply to finding a light fixture for the entryway several months ago, in an attempt to have some visual aids for the hubby. He knows what he loves, but was completely disinterested when I tried to get him to help me decide. Maybe it was just terrible timing on my part. You know how you have to wait until the timing is just right for important conversations? Like light fixtures. Extremely important life-altering decisions we are talking about here. [Read more…]
Summer is in full swing here. You would think that we would have all sorts of free time for getting stuff done, but it sure hasn’t felt that way. A couple of weeks in and we’ve already had Cub Scout Day camp, swimming lessons, doctor’s appointments, and I can’t believe we are sneaking up on the 4th of July already! I had high hopes to get more accomplished so far (including some great blog posts), but soaking in the sun with my babies will be my focus for a while, and I’m OK with that! [Read more…]
I’ve had this project mostly done for a couple of months now, but in the spirit of finishing this room, it’s time to play catch-up. While I was brainstorming what I was going to do in this space, I knew that some tall board and batten was just what I wanted to make a big first impression of our home. Our entryway is relatively big (or at least feels that way compared to our last house), and the vault of the ceiling starts here. I love that we have a window next to our door, which also has a window in it, to let in tons of natural light. Other than that, the room was lacking. [Read more…]
I’ve got several large-ish flower planters that I’ve tried several different space filling methods on. Sure, you can just fill them with dirt or potting soil, but that’s A LOT of dirt. And if you need to move them to a new location?! Forget it. Plus, you get excellent soil drainage if you have a little something other than dirt in a large planter. [Read more…]
In the spirit of finishing up projects, I’m buckling down with a resolve to make some progress on a few rooms. I’m starting in the entryway. I have big plans all over the house, but I really tackle whatever I’m in the mood for. Right now, the entryway is the focuse of my energy for a few reasons. I started a DIY church pew, which really was the jumping off point to getting this room a little further along. I started the board and batten. I started a DIY sign.
Basically, I started a bunch of projects that I just need to get DONE! [Read more…]
