I feel like we made some major progress during these weeks. After the plumber came, we were able to get our electrician friend of a friend out in his spare time to place all the boxes on the wall, move the stove, move the floating light to another wall so that we could get everything closed back up and prepped for floors. He’ll be back after we’ve done floors and cabinets to actually connect everything, but this allows us to continue uninterrupted.
Can you see the floors sitting there?! 🙌 . I was soooo nervous to place such a big $ order based off a such a small sample, but I went for it, and definitely breathed a sigh of relief when they arrived! I’ll tell you a whole lot more about them soon!
With the electrical and plumbing re-worked, the only thing left was to plan for our vent.
<<< ember the teeny hole the old microwave had been venting through? Clearly not going to work with our new vent. Hubby fixed up this one to accommodate the new vent, and we’re ready to start putting back together!
Even though this was a huge turning point in the project, I will say that this is the week that a little “renovation depression” set in. We have spent 2 1/2 months already of nearly every bit of our spare time devoted to this, and we definitely started questioning ourselves. We’re we absolutely crazy to have tackled a project of this size by ourselves?? With 3 kids and a demanding more than full time job? Our kids were getting tired of hearing “we can’t do _____ or _____ until after the renovation is over”. And we were feeling guilty about spending so much time and energy on this, while our kids occupied themselves with too much TV.
A DIY renovation, or any home build or renovation for that matter, isn’t for the faint of heart. Yes, we probably are a little crazy to tackle this. We DO enjoy working together, the building and creating process, our kids enjoy helping (for 5 minutes 😉) , and as amazing as taking a relaxing weekend off to do absolutely nothing sounds, that really isn’t us. We’ve always got some project brewing.
So we’re making an intentional effort to make some time for breaks (of course this all happened to fall during Thanksgiving weekend- I’m a little behind on my updates! 🙈), trying to accommodate kids requests for fun family activities and minimize the impact on them, all while busting our butts to get this thing finished up. Or at least a little more live-able.
Thanks for following along!
