We have been making some big changes around here and I cannot wait to share them with you! I guess we officially kicked off demo a week before my daughter’s birthday party when I decided I couldn’t stand our nasty carpet for one more second 😆.
Seriously- look at how much dirt was under them??!! Her 3rd birthday will always be remembered as the year we hosted friends and family with plywood floors 😂.
And then we waited until after the party to really start the fun stuff! Excuse the obviously half-painted space and who-knows-what on the floor, but this is the “before” kitchen space. It just felt so awkward to us in an otherwise very open concept living space.
One random summer day we decided to really see what we were working with and took down the drywall from the upper half of the wall. And definitely don’t take any DIY safety tips from us- see the hubbys bare feet😆?!
This helped our electrician really see what he was working with. He was able to keep our kitchen light floating and usable and disconnected the rest so that we could safely take down that wall. Then when we’re ready, he’ll be back to re-route the light switch, wire our new island and double oven, and install pendants.
A few more befores-
We tore out the pantry closet and the entire island wall was removed back to the arch that was the original kitchen entrance.
It was interesting to get to know our house from the inside out and we discovered a few things along the way. The vent for the microwave had been installed in the wrong place, so instead of moving it, they cut a small hole to vent and shoved a piece of styrofoam to fill in the hole. 🤦🏻♀️
All in all, we felt good about tour progress. We still have a tremendous amount of work to do, but each step just feels right. You would think that making such a big visual change would take awhile to get used to, but instead it instantly felt like like it was always meant to be this way. I cannot wait to share more soon!
